Three teams emerged as winners in the recently concluded “Klimathon: Our Race Towards A Net Zero Reality,” a joint initiative of the Climate Change Commission (CCC) and Nestlé Philippines that provided a platform for the youth to develop innovative and sustainability-based solutions addressing the impacts of climate change.
The impacts of climate change have gradually intensified around the world with countries experiencing more severe weather conditions, and sea levels rising at an increasing rate. Without urgent action, these are only foreseen to worsen and among those who will bear the most burden is the next generation.
Nestlé launched a new initiative to plant two and a half million native bamboo clumps and a million trees over the next three years in the Philippines. This reforestation effort supports Nestlé’s goal to plant 200 million trees by 2030. It also forms part of the company’s plan to scale up actions in regenerative agriculture and deploy nature-based solutions to absorb greenhouse gases and contribute to achieving Nestlé’s net-zero target by 2050.
