Once again, the Department of Health (DOH) categorized the Philippines as a “high risk” country for the COVID-19 virus*. As the number of cases spikes and the positivity rate increases by the day, there’s no doubt that the highly contagious Omicron variant plays a part.
One positive in this current surge is that Omicron is said to have milder symptoms. Some are optimistic that this variant will act as a natural immunity and lead to the end of the pandemic. However, even if the symptoms caused by the Omicron are mild, recent research by NIH (National Institute of Health) in China showed that the virus might stay in the human body, brain, and other organs for over 200 days even after turning in a negative result.
New year, new variant this is how we start our 2022. Due to the highly mutated Omicron variant, coronavirus infection will probably continue rising and will cause another “serious surge”.
