Shopee recently awarded a one-year scholarship grant worth ₱100,000 each to the first batch of Shopee Scholars. Launched in July, Shopee Scholars is an education assistance program created for the benefit of sellers and their families. Among the numerous applicants, Victor Voltaire Cabanes, Shana Catherine Quilalang, and Johanna Caresse Eusebio were chosen because of their academic excellence and essay entries.
Martin Yu, Associate Director at Shopee Philippines said, “We are very happy to introduce Shopee Scholars and award our first batch of grantees. Our sellers are an integral part of the Shopee community so we continuously find ways to support them further. Through this program, we are able to offer financial support to help with their children’s education and empower them to pursue their dreams. We wish our first batch of scholars all the best and we look forward to following them throughout their educational journey.”
Victor Voltaire Cabanes, Age 18
Victor is a student from Faith Christian School. Since his childhood, he has excelled in school as he works towards his dream of becoming a doctor. This dream was inspired by his mother, Genalin, who was diagnosed with kidney cancer. Genalin has built a growing business on Shopee that continues to provide for her son and family.
Shana Catherine Quilalang, Age 18
Shana studies International Hospitality Management and hopes to work on a cruise ship. Shana and her family have benefited financially since joining Shopee. She helps her mother, Helen, with answering customer concerns and uploading pictures of their products on the app. Shana is also known as an avid Shopee ambassador as she constantly promotes the platform to her friends and family.
Johanna Caresse Eusebio, Age 19
Johanna is a college student studying BS Forestry in one of the top local universities. She aspires to work in the engineering industry. Since the diagnosis of her mother’s medical condition, Shopee has been a great help in alleviating her family’s financial worries.
Shopee looks forward to what the future holds for its first batch of Shopee Scholars and hopes others will be inspired by their stories.
